Overview
Are you interested in a self-guided walking holiday in Cape Verde? We’re here to talk you through the options.
The paths on Cape Verde are not waymarked and often need to be guided. However, there are some that are well established enough to be suitable for independent days out. Depending on which islands you choose to visit, we can recommend the best walks to enjoy without the need for a guide.
If you are looking for a holiday with a broad variety of walking, you might choose to mix guided days with independent walks. Like with these three walking holidays on the islands of Santiago, Fogo, and Santo Antão.
The most spectacular self guided walk is the coastal trail from Cruzinha to Ponta do Sol on Santo Antão. Starting off in the small fishing village of Cruzinha, you follow the dramatic coastal path that contours around to the pretty and picturesque mountain village of Fontainhas. Your final destination is Ponta do Sol, the old capital of Santo Antão.
This moderate walk takes five to six hours and is popular with families, groups and couples. You will find plenty of coves and beaches to stop at along the way, and can enjoy a picnic lunch.
